Basilio stool, 1970

Drawn by Giuseppe Rivadossi in 1970, Basilio is less a stool than a small sculpture to sit on. Its seat curves gently between two solid uprights, a pure and monolithic form cut from linden wood.

Each piece is still shaped by hand in the Rivadossi workshop in northern Italy, where the sculptor works with his sons. Two finishes tell two stories: smooth, the wood reveals its quiet grain; gouged, it keeps the rhythm of the chisel, so that no two stools are ever alike.

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. On the gouged finish, a soft brush reaches gently into the chisel marks.

Linden wood deepens slowly with light and time. Keep it away from direct sun and damp, and the patina will settle evenly, giving the piece its character.

Made to order and ready in 8 to 12 weeks. Insured delivery across the European Union. Outside the EU, pieces are sold Ex Works Paris: shipping, duties and import taxes are arranged and paid by the buyer.
