Giuseppe Rivadossi
Born in 1935 in Italy, Giuseppe Rivadossi is an Italian designer and sculptor who has profoundly impacted the world of art and craftsmanship with his poetic vision of wood. He transforms this material into timeless works of art that blend tradition with modernity. Raised in his father’s workshop, a cooper by trade, Rivadossi developed an early intimacy with the material, learning the precise gestures and the deep relationship between man and nature.
A Creative Workshop of Tradition and Innovation
In 1962, Rivadossi inherited his family’s workshop, gradually transforming it into an avant-garde creative laboratory. This space became the heart of his work—a place where he developed innovative techniques while staying true to traditional craftsmanship. Alongside his sons, Emanuele and Clemente, Rivadossi creates unique furniture and art pieces distinguished by refined details: the natural grain of the wood, hidden hinges, and meticulous hand-carved bas-reliefs. His techniques include working with solid blocks of wood, ingenious joinery, and handcrafted finishes.
International Recognition and Iconic Exhibitions
Rivadossi’s visionary approach to design has captured international attention. His creations, ranging from sculptural furniture to monumental installations, have been exhibited in prestigious venues such as the MoMA in New York, the Tamayo Museum in Mexico, the Shard in London, and in Shanghai. These works transcend their utilitarian function, embodying a philosophy of life where the beauty and humanity of spaces take center stage.
A Lifetime of Excellence in Craftsmanship
In 2018, Rivadossi’s immense contribution to the art of fine craftsmanship was recognized when he was awarded the title of MAM-Maestro d’Arte e Mestiere by the Fondazione Cologni. This prestigious award celebrates his achievements in the fields of wood and furniture making, highlighting his role as a guardian and transmitter of Italy’s artisanal traditions.
